I’m happy to announce that on Saturday June 4, 2022, I will be at the Elfreth’s Alley Museum Fete Day, 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM, giving a woodworking demonstration. “This is an event which dates back to 1934, in which residents of Elfreth’s Alley open their doors to allow visitors a glimpse of 21st century life in these 18th- and 19th-century houses.” I’ll be describing and demonstrating 18th and 19th century sash and sash making, doing some chip carving, and making spills to give away. I’ll have some interesting tools to examine and maybe try out, and examples of work. Tickets are on sale now.
I’m happy to have this chance to gear up to do this kind of thing in the future.

Oh yes, hand tools. !9th century sash with the sash plane on the left in the third photo made (or at least sold) 3 blocks from Elfreth’s Alley in the late 1850s, and 18th century sash made with the ovolo plane made by Old Street Tools on the right and a plow plane. Both made with the addition of a backsaw, mortise gauge, and mortise chisel. (Also a mallet, in-cannel gouge, striking knife, holding devices, etc.)
